Rosters for the SMP Metro teams are now posted here (under “Downloadable Files”).

Also, please note that this weekend SMP will be hosting the May Bash so practices and games will be limited for age groups 9 and older. For anyone else at the park the board requests that you please park across Al Seier Road in the ancillary parking lot.

Robby Ashford defeated Josh Lundy to claim the 7 YO home run derby title this week. League commissioner Russell Patterson reports the battle went into 3 OT before a winner was crowned. Congratulations to both kids!

Congratulations to the White Sox and the Mets for making the finals of the 9/10 YO American league last  night. They will play for their league title Friday at 7 on Field #1.

Tonight is a big night at the park as the 13/14 YO league continues its tournament on Field #2 and championship games will be held for the 7 YO (No. 1 seed Dodgers vs. No. 2 seed Indians) and the 11/12 YO leagues.

Congratulations to the 9/10 National Red Sox for taking their league title Saturday over the Giants.

There will be a couple of big games at SMP tonight as the 9/10 Americans will hold their semifinals tonight (A’s vs. White Sox and Orioles vs. Mets) on Field #1  and the 13/14 YO league begins its tournament on Field #2.

Tuesday will mark the championship games for the 7 YO league (No. 1 seed Dodgers vs. No. 2 seed Indians) and the 11/12 YO league.

Also, the Home Run Derby for the  11/12 YO league was held Saturday. Wes Banks was the 11 year old champion and Hub Roberts was the 12 year old champion.

Did you know there was not a single undefeated team at SMP this year? All leagues were competitive and, as such, there are a lot of exciting games at SMP this week and in coming nights.

Here are some things to look for this week…

• The 6 YO Machine Pitch championship game is tonight at 6 on Field #7 as the Indians and Cubs will battle for league supremacy.
• The 7 YO Machine Pitch league will continue with tournament quarterfinals tonight on Field #5.
• The 8 YO Machine Pitch championship game is tonight at 6 on Field #6 featuring the Diamondbacks and the Giants (warning, if you have seen these teams play do NOT park near Field #6 tonight!).
• The 9/10 YO American tournament begins tonight with two games on Field #1.
• The 9/10 YO National tournament has begun and continues with opening round games on Field #9.
• The 11/12 YO tournament has started.
• The 13/14 YO tournament begins next Monday, May 17th.

Here are some notes from last night’s SMP Board meeting:

• Voting for SMP Board positions will be this Saturday, May 8th, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Cuppett Field (Field #2). See Kim Fort to vote.
• Wednesday, May 5th is the deadline to register for all stars. The form is online this year on the Quickscores site here (under “Registration/Surveys”).
• Scholarships were awarded to eight high school seniors last night. Look for more information on this soon after we contact the winners.
• Be on the lookout for league and park “Home Run Derby” information soon. This is a new event and we hope it will be a lot of fun and add excitement to our league tournaments.
• Sites for the Metro tournaments have been announced and are posted here.
• Discounted tickets to the SEC Baseball tournament are available to all SMP players. Look for information from your team mom about that in coming days.
• End of season tournaments are here and some will begin as early as this weekend. The final EOS tournament will be the 13/14 YO league on May 23rd.
• National teams will wear black and white jerseys this year; American teams will wear orange and white.
• The park is taking steps to add vending machines for times when the concession stand is not open.
• We hope everyone has noticed the new and improved memorial at the front of the park.
