Labor Day Weekend Update

September 2nd, 2011 by SMP
Respond

Fall Baseball is just around the corner, so here are some news and notes to keep you up to date on events at Shades Mountain Park:

  • We have almost 400 children participating this Fall and all will be notified soon. We do, however, still need volunteer coaches in some of our leagues so please contact your league commissioner if you are interested in participating. Because of the lack of coaches some leagues have moved back their drafts till the week after Labor Day.
  • The Tball and 6 YO leagues will begin practicing next week and play starting on Sept. 11th.
  • Ages 7 and older will participate in training sessions beginning Sept. 11th. SMP is pleased to continue its relationship with Hoover High Coach Rick Davis and his staff for special training once again this Fall. Training clinics will be held for players age 7 and older on Sept. 11th, 14th and 18th. Games for ages 7 and older begin Sept. 25 through the end of October (ages 6 and younger will not participate in camps). Training sessions for players age 9-12 will be 1:30-3:30 with 7&8’s 3:30-5:30 on Sunday Sept. 11th and 18th; on Wednesday, Sept. 14th 7&8’s 5:30-7 and 9-12s’ 7:15-8:45. Players should report to Field #3 to find your coach and team.
  • The September Board meeting has been moved from Sept. 5th (Labor Day) to Sept. 12th. Board meetings are now held in the Coaches Corner the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. All members are welcome, but prior notice is required due to space limitations. Minutes from all previous meetings are posted at www.quickscores.com/shadesmountainpark (under “Downloadable Files”).
  • Equipment – SMP provides a home and away jersey for Fall. Each player will need to supply his/her own helmet with mask and chin strap, hat, cleats (non metal), pants, belt, socks and glove. We discourage our younger kids from purchasing bats (6 and younger) until you have participated to some extent and know what size/type you should purchase, if you want to purchase at bat.
  • SMP will hold a mandatory Coaches Training Session on Wednesday, Sept. 7th from 6:30-8:15 on Field #1. Please contact your league commissioner if you have any questions.
  • SMP is a tax-exempt organization and as such, is accepting donations of “gently used” furniture for the new Coaches Corner – specifically we need a refrigerator, office desk, white board / dry erase, surge protector and a microwave.
  • We welcome your feedback about how to make the baseball experience at SMP even better – the Board welcomes your suggestions for park improvements. You can send those to info@shadesmountainpark.org.
  • We hope you have a great Labor Day!
