About SMP

Governed by an all-volunteer board of directors, Shades Mountain Community Park (SMP) is a non-profit organization that provides baseball programs for children in the city’s central and western areas. There are leagues for children ages 4-14.  Park facilities – nine fields on 14 acres plus playgrounds, picnic grounds and practice and hitting areas – are maintained and owned by the City of Hoover. The Park is sometimes referred to as Hoover Sports Park West.  SMP provides a recreational baseball outlet for youth, regardless of sex, color, religion or race.

Founded as the Bluff Park Little League in 1958, the park has provided programs that provided athletic and social development for thousands of children proceeding to be productive citizens and valuable members of the Hoover community and beyond.  Volunteers are numerous and participate from all walks of life.  SMP is affiliated with Metro Sports of Birmingham and USSSA.
