- There are 751 children registered right now in our eight leagues and interest continues, even though deadline has passed. SMP had 753 last year and 748 in 2008. T-ball has a record 143 kids enrolled, followed by 109 in 9/10 YO American, 103 in 11/12 YO, 89 in 7 YO, 84 in 8 YO, 81 in 6 YO, 73 in 9/10 YO National and 70 in 13/14 YO.
- Park financially stable.
- SMP supported news that Alabaster has rejoined Metro. There are now 11 parks in the organization (www.metrosportsbaseball.org).
- Guests no doubt will notice several enhancements at SMP. Thanks to Danny Warren and Chuck Cuppett, a wireless network was recently installed and is up and running and should be a treat for guests. The ID is “smp” and the password is “playball”. We hope this is popular and helpful to our families. Other improvements include newly-painted curbs, improvements to the lighting, landscaping improvements, signage improvements, new shades structures and, of course, the best fields in metro Birmingham.
- Part of the annual Buc Classic, the Hoover High School Spring Break baseball tournament, will be held on Cuppett Field (Field #2) March 15-18.
- Fundraising plans are underway for the proposed hitting facility and will be announced at the upcoming Team Mom meeting.
- Coaches will be named later this week and player evaluations begin this coming weekend. All coaches will also be going through specialized safety training later this month.
- We will have a special “SMP Sale” at Dick’s with details to be announced soon.
- The calendar onĀ this website (bottom, righthand corner) is being added to daily, but stay tuned for news about the big Opening Day Ceremony planned for Saturday, March 27th at 11 a.m.
- Minutes from previous meetings, as always, are posted here under “Downloadable Files.”
