Fall Baseball Details Announced
It’s August, and that means it’s back-to-school time and back-to-baseball time as well. The major league baseball playoffs are right around the corner, the weather is perfect, the fields are ready…it’s an ideal time to be at the park.

Shades Mountain Community Park will hold its Fall baseball registration on Saturday, Aug. 15 (10 a.m. till 2 p.m.) and Sunday, Aug. 16 (1-4 p.m.) in the park’s Board Room (1211 Al Seier Road). Registration is also available online at www.shadesmountainpark.org through Aug. 16. The cost to participate is $85 per child. Registration fees are payable by cash, check or credit card. The season will begin Sept. 13th and run through Nov. 1st with activities each Sunday afternoon. SMP-branded merchandise will als o be on sale at registration with the 50th Anniversary T-shirts that were so popular in the Spring marked down to $5 each.

Fall Baseball is traditionally focused on skill development and this year we are particularly excited to announce that Hoover High Head Baseball Coach Rick Davis will be leading a new developmental program as part of “Fall Ball.” Coach Davis has had an amazing career with a state championship on his resume and has mentored a multitude of players who have advanced to the collegiate level. Coach Davis will be teaching SMP kids the same methods, techniques and drills he uses with his Buccaneers and offering a level of access to training that you will not want to miss. We also expect the new program to be compatible with football schedules for children playing both sports.

As in the past, teams will be selected after registration and will have access to one practice time during the week in addition to Sundays. The first four Sundays of the season will be Coach Davis’ development program. Games will begin on Sunday, Oct. 13th and continue through Nov. 1st. The schedule for the first four weeks is: T-ball (4/5 year olds) through the 8-year-old league, 1:30-3 p.m. and 9-year-olds through 12-year-olds 3:30-5:30 p.m. The schedule for the final four weeks will be announced after teams are chosen.

If you have any questions you can speak with a Board Member or League Commissioner at registration, or email us at info@shadesmountainpark.org.
