HAVE PANCAKES THIS SATURDAY AT WING’S
Remember to support SMP at “Pancakes in the Park” by having breakfast Saturday from 8-11 a.m. at Baumhower’s Wings at Patton Creek.

Tickets are only $5 each and may be purchased from any SMP player. Milk and orange juice will also be served and SMP hats will be on sale at the event as well. Money will be accepted at the door if you would like to participate and do not have a ticket.

For more information about this event contact John Parker at 568-8103 or parkerjjj@bellsouth.net. Anyone interested in volunteering to serve may sign up for a shift by contacting Kristi Tolbert at 937-0333 or tolberts4@charter.net.

CORY REAMER GUEST SPEAKER AT OPENING DAY CEREMONY
Former SMP, Hoover High and University of Alabama standout Cory Reamer will be the featured speaker at the Opening Day Ceremony on Saturday, March 27th. This special event will take place on Cuppett Field (Field #2) at 11 a.m. The National Anthem will be played along with a parade of athletes at this fun event (we will have a working PA system this year!). No games will be held during this time so every team can participate.

March 27th is also Picture Day and pictures are being scheduled to compliment this event. Team and individual photographs will be taken across the street at Village Green in The Preserve development.

SCHEDULES AVAILABLE ONLINE
Uniforms are in and being distributed which means games are just around the corner! We encourage all teams to keep up with schedules and results on the SMP website. The first of the more than 500 games to be played at SMP this Fall begin this coming Monday, March 22nd.

SMP WIFI UP AND RUNNING
We hope are guests are enjoying the new wireless network that is up and running at the park. The ID is “smp” and the password is “playball.” Other improvements include newly-painted curbs, improvements to the lighting, shade structures, landscaping improvements, signage improvements and, of course, the best fields in metro Birmingham.

AND DON’T FORGET TO CHECK THE CALENDAR
As always, we encourage our families to visit the SMP website at www.shadesmountainpark.org as all events are posted on the calendar. Now let’s play ball!

Fields Closed Today; News and Notes from March Board Meeting

March 2nd, 2010 by SMP
Respond

The fields at SMP are closed today due to inclement weather. As always the Information/Rainout line is the No. 1 way to get information at SMP,  but of course we try to keep website updated too.

Here are a few notes from last night’s Board meeting:

  • Teams, of course, have been formed and are now practicing. Game schedules are being finalized and will be released in the near future.
  • Team rosters are posted here (under “Downloadable Files”).
  • Response to Dick’s Sporting Goods sale and coaches’ gifts were popular.
  • We were notified that some people with older browsers may not have been getting the web posts this month. That problem has been corrected.
  • Team Mom meeting was well attended and that group has many responsibilities this Spring. We thank all the moms who have stepped up in this role. Kristi Tolbert is the Park Mom and leads this group. Thank you all for what you do!
  • Pancakes at the Park event will be Saturday, March 20th from 8-11 at Baumhower’s Wings at Patton Creek. Tickets are $5 each and families will soon be getting information about this from the Team Moms. Contact John Parker with any questions.
  • We will have a “Used Equipment Donation Day” this Saturday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at SMP. You may drop off any used equipment and it will be donated to the Birmingham Police Athletic League. Drop off point is old BBQ hut at front of park below Field #1. There will be a sign to point this out.
  • With a record 16 T-ball teams parking will be in demand as never before – please try to park in the lot across Al Seier Road whenever possible.

As always minutes from previous meetings are available here (under “Downloadable Files”).

Thanks to all for Supporting Sale at Dick’s

February 22nd, 2010 by SMP
Respond

We don’t have any hard numbers, but it seems like the sale at Dick’s Sporting Goods this past Saturday was popular. Thanks to everyone who turned out to support that. Special thanks to Carrie Pomeroy, Brandy Marcrum and Donna Crain for volunteering at the event and making it possible for the rest of us to save a few dollars on baseball equipment.
