News and Notes from SMP

March 4th, 2010 by SMP
Respond

  • Rosters for all SMP teams are now posted here (under “Downloadable Files”).
  • Clean out your garage and closet and donate your used baseball equipment (cleats, bats, gloves etc.) to a great cause! SMP families are encouraged to bring their gently used baseball equipment and/or apparel to the park this Saturday, March 6th from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m. We will be collecting items that day at the storage building near the front of the park (signage will point the direction) and delivering the donated items to the Greater Birmingham Athletic Association. For more information, contact Kristi Tolbert at 937-0333 or tolberts4@charter.net.
  • Please mark your calendar for Pancakes at the Park, Shades Mountain’s big fundraising event for this year. On Saturday, March 20th from 8-10:30 a.m., come and get some homemade pancakes at Baumhower’s Wings at Patton Creek. $5 tickets will soon be on sale through each team’s Team Mom and all SMP players. For more information about this event contact John Parker at 568-8103 or parkerjjj@bellsouth.net.
  • Guests no doubt will notice several enhancements and improvements at SMP. A wireless network was recently installed and is up and running and will be a treat for members. The ID is “smp” and the password is “playball”. We hope this is popular and helpful to our families and visitors. Other improvements include newly-painted curbs, improvements to the lighting, shade structures, landscaping improvements, signage improvements and, of course, the best fields in metro Birmingham.
  • As always, we encourage our families to visit the SMP website at www.shadesmountainpark.org as all events are posted on the calendar, including several upcoming for Coaches and Team Moms.

Fields Closed Today; News and Notes from March Board Meeting

March 2nd, 2010 by SMP
Respond

The fields at SMP are closed today due to inclement weather. As always the Information/Rainout line is the No. 1 way to get information at SMP,  but of course we try to keep website updated too.

Here are a few notes from last night’s Board meeting:

  • Teams, of course, have been formed and are now practicing. Game schedules are being finalized and will be released in the near future.
  • Team rosters are posted here (under “Downloadable Files”).
  • Response to Dick’s Sporting Goods sale and coaches’ gifts were popular.
  • We were notified that some people with older browsers may not have been getting the web posts this month. That problem has been corrected.
  • Team Mom meeting was well attended and that group has many responsibilities this Spring. We thank all the moms who have stepped up in this role. Kristi Tolbert is the Park Mom and leads this group. Thank you all for what you do!
  • Pancakes at the Park event will be Saturday, March 20th from 8-11 at Baumhower’s Wings at Patton Creek. Tickets are $5 each and families will soon be getting information about this from the Team Moms. Contact John Parker with any questions.
  • We will have a “Used Equipment Donation Day” this Saturday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at SMP. You may drop off any used equipment and it will be donated to the Birmingham Police Athletic League. Drop off point is old BBQ hut at front of park below Field #1. There will be a sign to point this out.
  • With a record 16 T-ball teams parking will be in demand as never before – please try to park in the lot across Al Seier Road whenever possible.

As always minutes from previous meetings are available here (under “Downloadable Files”).

February 22nd, 2010 by SMP
Respond

We don’t have any hard numbers, but it seems like the sale at Dick’s Sporting Goods this past Saturday was popular. Thanks to everyone who turned out to support that. Special thanks to Carrie Pomeroy, Brandy Marcrum and Donna Crain for volunteering at the event and making it possible for the rest of us to save a few dollars on baseball equipment.
